How do you get a child who won’t eat fruit to eat fruit? Easy – smother it in chocolate and ice cream. Of course thats a really naive assumption as I soon found out. Banana Splits was the fussy eater’s chosen dessert creation and so we gathered together all the ingredients based on a recipe in ‘The Times’.
To create Banana Splits for four people you will need:
- 4 bananas
- 1 Crunchie (or you could try making one yourself)
- Double (Heavy) cream
- White chocolate, grated
- Toffee fudge sauce
- Chocolate sauce
- Chocolate sprinkles or ‘Hundreds and Thousands’
- Ice cream
- Chopped hazelnuts
First whip the cream so its nice and thick:
Then you need to smash the hell out of your crunchies so its all crumbled up:

Then you peel the bananas and cut them down the middle length-wise and arrange on plates. Put the cream in a food bag and snip off a corner. Put a couple of dollops of ice cream on each banana and then squidge cream along the top:
Then sprinkle the nuts, white chocolate and crushed Crunchie over the creation:
Then squirt chocolate and fudge sauce all over the place and sprinkle hundreds and thousands on – and there you have it – classic Banana Splits!
So he served these up and guess what happened:
Everyone scraped the topping off and left the bananas. Turns out no one likes bananas. I was set up.
