When Britain was Great – Brooklands

Brooklands is a museum, like much of the UK. When once we dug up coal now we have museums about digging up coal. When once we built planes and cars we now have museums about it. Brooklands is one of those places.

Bits of Concorde were made their. One of the the first purpose-built race tracks was laid there. And so on etc…

The race track was built in 1907 – you can see on the map in this picture what is left of it – a great banking curve made of bricks that’s almost impossible to walk up its so steep.

That day they were running a racing car exhibit – some amazing old machines that were running up the test hill – a steep road that was built to test power and speed – anyone know what this car is? – it was very noisy and very fast!:
